Our History

Hoag’s Hardware & Design began with a small, hand-carved and painted sign hanging above Grandfather Hoag’s basement hobby shop — a place for tinkering, experimentation, and problem-solving. More than 30 years later, that same spirit has been carried forward into modern mechanical design and fabrication.

As a mechanical engineer, founder Jason Hoag repeatedly encountered a costly disconnect between engineering design and fabrication. Engineers often lacked the practical “tricks of the trade” that can turn a $500 part into a $5 part, while machinists and fabricators didn’t always have visibility into design intent — leading to unnecessary tolerances, inefficient processes, or missed opportunities for simpler materials or methods.

Having worked on both sides of that divide, Jason founded Hoag’s Hardware & Design to bridge it.

Today, we are a small, technically focused shop specializing in custom hardware, precision machining, and practical mechanical design. We work with engineers, startups, and small manufacturers to turn ideas into functional, manufacturable parts — delivered efficiently, intelligently, and without unnecessary complexity.
